The simplicity of life in the province… it’s amazing. I spent a few days at a province in the Philippines, where my mom was born and raised. And I didn’t want to leave. I’ve been there hundreds of times before, when we still lived in Manila and I really miss being able to spend time there like I used to.
Why? I just feel great when I’m at the province. There isn’t a single dull day. Mostly because I’m surrounded by family, but the lifestyle is also so refreshing. It really is a breath of fresh air especially for people living in big, busy cities. Being in the province also made me realize how uncomplicated life actually is. All you really need is food, someplace to sleep (preferably with a roof), and have loved ones around you. The lifestyle most people live today (including me) is far from being that simple.
I grew up with a driver and helpers in the house, which is quite normal in Manila. When we’d visit the province I saw how kids, maybe just one third of my age at the time, learned to take care of themselves. You never really learn independence from just seeing it though; until you’re forced to face reality like I did when I moved away from home when I was 15. Anywho I’m so glad I got to see that way of living at a young age. It has helped me grow for sure. Unconsciously then, but now that I’m older I appreciate it even more.
I know people talk on and on about taking a break from our phones as well. Being in the province? No problem at all. It may have been the fact that there barely was any signal and if you were lucky to find any WiFi… it sucked🌚. But it was surprisingly easy not be on my phone at all because I was busy being with people. I’d leave my phone in the bedroom all day, except for when I wanted to take pictures or if we’d go somewhere. But it really was amazing not feeling the urge to be on my phone. I preferred a swim in the ocean, to ride the boat, play cards, talk & eat.
I’m so thankful for the province<3
