Whether itâs a birthday, graduation, Christmas, anniversary or even a wedding gift, itâs almost always a good idea to Do It Yourself. No matter the occasion a present you made yourself, or even something you slightly personalized, will certainly be appreciated.
I made a list of reasons why I love making gifts, and why you should consider it too:
- Itâs unique
No matter how you decide to do a present you make yourself, it will always be special. I mean itâs a one-of-a-kind gift that no one else has! Youâll never see it at any other store in your local mall or see someone else have the same item. Whoever receives your gift will also feel special knowing not a single person in the entire planet has that exact same item! Thatâs pretty cool.
2. It shows that you care
Unlike buying something, making a gift yourself means you put time and effort into it. You often put your thoughts and pour your heart out into your masterpiece. You actuallytake the time to make it⌠no matter how good or bad it turns out! Itâs guaranteed your hard work will pay off because homemade gifts shows that you care and itâs the perfect way of showing how much someone means to you!
3. Itâs personal
Your present reflects you. Whenever the other person receiving your gift looks at it, youâre automatically the person that comes in mind. Because the gift is unique, the person will know it came from someone special. No matter how crappy or amazing the gift is, youâll (probably) be the first person to be thought of. This way the other person will always have a piece of you with them.
4. Itâs cheaper
For someone who doesnât earn a dime, like me, buying gifts can make me nervous. I want the gift to mean something, without emptying my wallet. But gifts donât have to be pricey at all! Arts and crafts stores can have some very affordable things, often some really good stuff too. All you have to do is put some time and thought into it and voilĂĄ! Even better than something you can but at the store. The most valuable presents arenât those that cost the most, but the ones that mean the most to you.
5. Itâs way more fun
Preparing gifts have become one of my favorite hobbies. Itâs so much fun because you get to be as creative as you want! Youâre imagination is the one and only limit. I will admit, it feels great buying someone something I know theyâll love. BUT whereâs the fun in going to the store, spending loads of money and getting something anyone can buy at any given time? Plus, DIYs are so rewarding. Youâll be proud of yourself regardless the outcome, because you (hopefully) did your best!
Hereâs some partially DIY-ed gifts I made for a few friends as graduation presents:

With that being said, Iâll also admit that I love receiving store-bought presents too. Especially if itâs something Iâve been wanting to have for the longest time. BUT, I do appreciate cards and homemade gifts more sometimes because theyâre always so special.
